Bourgeois slope D Adirondack/ Figured Mahogany
A beautiful 2010 Bourgeois Slope D, handcrafted by Dana Bourgeois in Lewiston, Maine.
This is a particularly compelling example of Bourgeois’ interpretation of the classic slope-shoulder dreadnought, combining an Adirondack Spruce top with a vintage-style sunburst, tortoise-style pickguard, ivoroid binding, and Waverly open-gear tuners.
The Adirondack Spruce top gives the guitar excellent headroom, projection, and clarity, while the slope-shoulder body brings a little more warmth and roundness to the response than a traditional square-shoulder dreadnought. It has the dynamic range to handle aggressive flatpicking and strumming, but remains responsive enough for more nuanced fingerstyle playing.
The back & sides feature a striking, highly figured reddish-brown wood that appears consistent with figured Mahogany seen on a number of Bourgeois Slope D builds from this era. We have not independently confirmed the species with Bourgeois, so we are intentionally listing this detail conservatively.
Visually, the figured back is a standout. The grain really comes alive under changing light, while the vintage sunburst and understated appointments give the guitar a classic, timeless appearance.
As you would expect from a Bourgeois of this period, the construction and finishing are exceptionally clean, with carefully selected woods, precise binding work, and an overall level of craftsmanship that rewards close inspection.

The Sound
The Adirondack top gives this Slope D plenty of headroom, projection, and dynamic range, while the slope-shoulder architecture adds warmth and a slightly rounder character to the overall response.
It’s a versatile dreadnought that can move effortlessly between flatpicking, strumming, and dynamic fingerstyle, with enough authority for a heavy attack and enough sensitivity to reward a lighter touch.
A gorgeous older Bourgeois with an excellent combination of traditional aesthetics, exceptional woods, and boutique-level craftsmanship. The combination of Adirondack Spruce, slope-shoulder design, vintage sunburst, and figured back makes this a particularly appealing example for players looking for something beyond a conventional dreadnought.
Ships carefully and professionally packed from Beyond Tone Instruments.
