Built over the course of several months in direct collaboration with Paoletti Guitars, " Blood Ivy " stands as a singular expression of Italian craftsmanship, material history, and commissioned artistry.
At the heart of the instrument is Paoletti’s celebrated reclaimed chestnut body wood sourced from Italian wine barrels that spent eighty years aging in Tuscan cellars before being transformed into this instrument. Every grain line, contour, and finish carries the imprint of time.
The top is wrapped entirely in hand-finished Italian vegetable-tanned leather, stained in a deep oxblood crimson and waxed by hand to reveal an organic deep marbled texture beneath the surface. In contrast, the body’s cream-washed finish exposes the dramatic open grain of the aged chestnut beneath, creating an aesthetic that feels equally inspired by antique Italian furniture, old vineyard estates, and gothic cathedral interiors.
Running throughout the fretboard is a fully custom vine inlay carved from 50 year old olive wood branches grown over half a century before being hand-shaped into the instrument itself. The design continues seamlessly into a matching engraved brass truss rod cover, creating a level of thematic cohesion rarely seen in modern custom instruments.
No plastic appointments are used anywhere on the guitar. Every visible detail was intentionally selected:
